Benoit Badiashile Joins Napoli on Loan from Chelsea

Napoli have moved decisively to reinforce their defence, striking a deal with Chelsea to bring Benoit Badiashile to Serie A on an initial loan with an option to buy.

The Italian club confirmed the signing on Saturday through their official channels, announcing that the 25-year-old French defender has joined “on a temporary basis with a permanent option.” It draws a line under his immediate spell in London, where he struggled to nail down a regular starting place amid constant upheaval in the Chelsea dugout.

Loan now, big decision later

Napoli detailed the agreement in a statement on their website, confirming they have acquired the “sporting rights” to Badiashile from Chelsea on a season-long loan. The structure is clear: a low-risk audition now, a potentially sizeable investment later.

According to Sky Sport transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli will pay a €3 million loan fee for the campaign, with an option to make the move permanent next summer for a further €20 million. That clause offers Chelsea a route to recover a substantial chunk of the €37 million they paid Monaco in January 2023.

Some reports in Italy have suggested the final fee could climb higher, with certain outlets claiming the option might reach €27 million once add-ons and bonuses are factored in. What is not in doubt is that Badiashile represents another major outgoing for Chelsea in a summer of churn.

  • Marc Cucurella has gone to Real Madrid.
  • Andrey Santos has joined Manchester United.
  • Trevoh Chalobah has left for Como.

Badiashile now follows them out of Stamford Bridge, another high-profile departure from a squad in constant flux.

From Monaco prodigy to Napoli rebuild

Badiashile arrives in Naples with serious top-flight mileage behind him. Before his move to England, he racked up 135 competitive appearances for Monaco, establishing himself as one of Ligue 1’s most coveted young centre-backs.

His Chelsea chapter has been more uneven. Signed for big money in January 2023, he made 42 Premier League appearances for the Blues but never fully settled as the club cycled through managers and systems. Last season he featured 16 times in all competitions, often in and out of the side as Chelsea searched for stability they never quite found.

Napoli are betting that a clearer role and a calmer environment can unlock the defender who once looked destined to anchor a backline for a decade.

A busy day in Naples

This is not a solitary move. Badiashile becomes Napoli’s second major first-team signing of the summer, following the arrival of Costantino Favasuli from US Catanzaro earlier in the week. Piece by piece, the squad is being reshaped.

True to club tradition, president Aurelio De Laurentiis took the lead in unveiling the deal. He posted a simple “Benvenuto Benoit” on X, setting the tone before the official announcement dropped. No fanfare needed. The message was clear: Napoli’s defence has a new pillar.

The timing is sharp. Napoli open their Serie A campaign away to Genoa later today. The season starts now, and with Badiashile through the door, the question becomes whether this loan turns into the long-term partnership both club and player have been searching for.
