Burton Albion Sign Caylan Vickers from Brighton

Burton Albion have moved to sharpen their attacking edge with the signing of winger Caylan Vickers from Premier League side Brighton.

The 21-year-old arrives at the Pirelli Stadium on a two-year contract, with the Brewers holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. The fee is undisclosed, but the intent is clear: Burton want pace, direct running and end product out wide.

Vickers knows League One well. Last season he was pitched into the division with loan spells at Barnsley and Wigan Athletic, gaining the kind of experience that should allow him to hit the ground running in Staffordshire rather than spend weeks adjusting to the tempo.

He came through the ranks at Reading before Brighton picked him up, yet his time on the south coast never yielded a first-team appearance for the Seagulls. Now he finally has a permanent platform to prove he belongs in senior football week in, week out.

"He's an attacking player who will excite our supporters whilst adding goals and assists to the team," said Burton head coach Gary Bowyer. "Having played at this level already, he arrives ready to contribute and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop with us."

The timing is no accident. Burton are back at the Pirelli on Wednesday evening, when they host AFC Wimbledon, and Vickers will immediately be under the lights, under scrutiny and, if Bowyer is right, under orders to go and make things happen.
