Camilo Duran Shines as Celtic Secures 2-1 Victory Over Falkirk

Camilo Duran gave Celtic exactly what they needed: a sharp edge and a little bit of healing.

Days after their European setback, the Colombian stepped into his favoured role through the middle, replacing the injured Kasper Hogh, and turned the afternoon into his own. Two proper centre-forward finishes inside 29 minutes set up a 2-1 win over Falkirk and briefly lifted the mood around the club.

Trusted as the main striker, Duran played like a man determined to keep the shirt. His movement dragged Falkirk’s back line around, his timing inside the box ruthless. Both goals came from that classic striker’s instinct, arriving in the right place just as the ball broke, and he might easily have walked off with the match ball. He carved out openings for team-mates as well, only for a string of first-half chances to go begging.

Celtic’s wastefulness left the door open. Falkirk walked through it after the interval.

The visitors came out with a far higher press, refusing to let Celtic stroll out from the back. The rhythm of the game shifted. Celtic, so comfortable before the break, suddenly found themselves hurried and harried in possession as Falkirk pushed their defensive line up the pitch and committed bodies forward.

The pressure finally told on 72 minutes. Colby Donovan, under strain inside his own area, turned the ball into his own net to hand Falkirk a lifeline and change the noise inside the stadium. From a position of control, Celtic were now defending a narrow lead with a nervous crowd behind them.

That scare jolted the hosts back into life. Celtic responded by pinning Falkirk deep for the remainder of the match, waves of green and white attacks rolling towards the away goal. The chances kept coming, but the earlier clinical touch deserted them and Duran’s first-half double had to be enough.

It was. The whistle went with Celtic still on top, still searching, but safely over the line — and with a new focal point up front who has just made a powerful case to stay there.
