Chelsea Finalizes Marc Guiu Sale to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have approved the permanent sale of striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, drawing a swift line under a Stamford Bridge spell that never truly settled.

The 20-year-old is expected to join the Bundesliga club, with the framework of the move in place, though sources in Germany insist there are still details to iron out before the transfer is officially sealed.

Guiu, a Spain Under-21 international, is understood to be valued at around £25m. That figure underlines the sharp rise in his stock since Chelsea picked him up from Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m, prising him away from his boyhood club in a deal that was billed as one for the future.

The future, it turns out, will be in Germany.

Guiu’s time in England has been brief and uneven. He made 29 appearances in total for Chelsea, with his most telling contribution coming in Europe. Six of his eight goals for the club arrived in the 2024-25 Conference League campaign, a run that helped drive Chelsea to the trophy and hinted at a penalty-box instinct that attracted Leipzig’s attention.

Domestic minutes were harder to come by. A short loan spell at Sunderland last season brought just three matches and little rhythm, and by this summer the direction of travel was clear. Guiu trained away from the main first-team group in pre-season, a strong signal from Chelsea that they were preparing for life without him and ready to cash in.

Chelsea's Squad Reshaping

As Guiu edges towards the exit, Chelsea’s squad reshaping continues elsewhere.

Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan at River Plate, the club cutting short his time in Argentina to free up an overseas loan slot. The Ecuadorian midfielder is now expected to head back out again, with another loan move on the cards and the possibility of a spell in England under consideration.

One striker heading to Leipzig, one playmaker waiting for his next stop. Chelsea’s youth-driven project shows no sign of slowing – but it is starting to show who will be part of the journey, and who will be moving on.
