Chelsea Secure Loan Deal for Ahanor to Crystal Palace
Chelsea have sealed a deal for teenage defender Ahanor – but Crystal Palace will feel the benefits first.
Standard Sport revealed last week that the Blues had reached an agreement for the 18-year-old, struck personal terms and cleared the way for him to fly to London for a medical. That part is done. The twist comes in what happens next.
Rather than bringing him straight into Xabi Alonso’s squad, Chelsea have opted to loan him out immediately, with Palace the beneficiaries. Ahanor will officially arrive at Selhurst Park on loan from Atalanta, before making his long-term switch to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2027.
The move also fits within Premier League loan rules. Chelsea already sent Axel Disasi across the capital earlier in the window, the defender joining Palace on a season-long loan with no option or obligation to buy. Ahanor’s temporary move will be registered as coming from Atalanta, his current club, allowing Palace to take a second player linked to Chelsea into their squad.
It is a notable coup for Oliver Glasner’s side. Ahanor, a product of the Genoa academy, has already broken into the Italy senior set-up, earning two caps this year after a rapid rise in Serie A. He featured 28 times in the league for Atalanta last season and tasted Champions League football for the first time in September, underlining his readiness for a bigger stage.
Chelsea, though, are not done reshaping their midfield and defence.
The club remain keen on Monaco’s 22-year-old midfielder Lamine Camara and are actively exploring a move, with uncertainty swirling around Enzo Fernandez’s future. The Argentina international has now missed back-to-back Chelsea matches amid interest from Manchester City, turning what once looked like a settled situation into one of the stories of the window.
