Chelsea Finalizes Sale of Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have approved the permanent sale of striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, drawing a swift line under the Spaniard’s short and curious spell at Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete his move to Germany, though voices on the Leipzig side of the deal are still stressing that a few details need tying up before anything is signed off. The fee remains largely under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m.

It marks a sharp rise on the figure Chelsea paid barely a year ago. The Spain Under-21 forward arrived from Barcelona, his boyhood club, in 2024 for about £5m, touted as one of the more intriguing young centre-forward projects in Europe.

He never truly settled in west London. Guiu managed 29 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, scoring eight times. Six of those goals came in the 2024-25 Conference League, where he played a notable part in the club’s run to the trophy. His domestic impact, though, never matched his European flashes.

A brief loan to Sunderland last season did little to shift the narrative. He featured just three times for the Championship side in a short stint that faded almost as quickly as it began.

The writing has been on the wall this summer. Guiu has been training away from the main first-team group, a clear indication that Chelsea were preparing for life without him and that his representatives were working on an exit.

Leipzig now look set to take the gamble on his potential, betting that regular minutes in the Bundesliga can unlock the penalty-box instincts that first drew Chelsea to him.

Loan Strategy Reshaping

Chelsea, meanwhile, are also reshaping their loan strategy. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful spell at River Plate, a move designed to free up an overseas loan slot. The Ecuadorian teenager is expected to head back out again, with another loan – potentially in England – on the cards as the club continues to juggle development, opportunity and squad space.
