Chelsea Secure Pedro as No.9 Until 2034
Chelsea have moved decisively to lock down one of their centrepieces, handing Pedro a huge new contract that ties the Brazil international to Stamford Bridge until 2034.
The 24-year-old forward, already a fan favourite in west London, has been rewarded with a significant pay rise and the No.9 shirt, a clear signal of how central he has become to the club’s plans. For a side trying to build something lasting under new head coach Alonso, this is a statement as much as a signature.
Chelsea win the battle for their No.9
Pedro’s future had drawn serious interest. Barcelona tracked him closely earlier in the summer, lining him up as a potential option while they chased Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. The Catalan club waited to see if an opening might appear.
It never did. Chelsea moved with intent, refusing to let their main forward drift into uncertainty. Talks accelerated once Alonso arrived, and from that point the mood around Cobham shifted: keeping Pedro became a priority, not a possibility.
Direct conversations with the Spanish coach proved decisive. Alonso laid out his tactical blueprint and made it clear Pedro sits at the heart of it, whether as a central striker or operating just off the main line of attack. The message landed.
“I always dreamed of playing for a big club”
Once reassured, Pedro chose commitment over speculation.
“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,” he said after putting pen to paper. “I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and it means a lot to me to give my long-term commitment to this club.”
He knows what comes with that responsibility. Wearing the No.9 at Stamford Bridge carries weight, and the Brazilian has embraced it, speaking openly about the expectations inside the dressing room under Alonso.
“Everyone is very excited for this season,” he added. “We know we can achieve a lot of things, we have a great team, we have a coach who wants to win and has won already. I am fully committed, everyone is ready and hopefully we can achieve our targets.”
Cornerstone of a long-term project
Chelsea see Pedro as more than just their starting striker. At 24, he is the face of a long-term project, a player they believe can anchor the attack for the next decade and shape the identity of Alonso’s side.
With Barcelona’s interest repelled and the contract saga resolved, there is no ambiguity now. Pedro is Chelsea’s No.9, their locked-in focal point, and he will be judged on the only currency that really matters at Stamford Bridge: trophies.
