Como Transfer Update: Morata Out, Ricci In, Van der Brempt to Sassuolo

Como are ripping through the final days of the transfer window with the urgency of a club that has just seen its Champions League path laid out in front of it.

The Lariani are trimming and reinforcing in equal measure. The first big move: Alvaro Morata is gone. The Spanish striker has officially joined Leganes on loan, with an option to buy at the end of the season. A short stay on the lake, and now a chance to relaunch back in Spain.

On the right flank, Ignace van der Brempt is next to walk through the exit door. Multiple Italian outlets, including Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, report that Como have reached an agreement with Sassuolo for the Belgian full-back. It’s a loan with an obligation to buy, a total package worth €6.5 million. A clear sign Sassuolo see him as more than a stopgap.

That move also reshapes another chase on the market. Sassuolo had been pushing for Rafik Belghali from Hellas Verona, but the winger now appears to be leaning towards Torino, shifting the dominoes elsewhere in Serie A.

While the departures clear space, Como are not standing still. Milan midfielder Samuele Ricci arrived today to undergo his medical, a key incoming piece as the club prepares for a season that suddenly looks heavier and more demanding.

The deal for Ricci is structured as a loan at €1.5 million, with an option to buy at the end of the season for a further €22 million plus performance-related bonuses. Serious numbers for a player who only a year ago represented a major outlay for Milan.

Ricci had joined the Rossoneri from Torino last summer for €23 million plus bonuses. He never fully imposed himself, making just 34 appearances and scoring one goal. Now he gets a fresh start, and Como get a midfielder with top-level experience at an age where his best football should still be in front of him.

With Morata in Spain, Van der Brempt headed for Sassuolo and Ricci stepping in from Milan, Como’s late-window surgery is bold, expensive and very deliberate. The question now is simple: will this new-look squad be enough to carry them through the demands of a Champions League season?
