Danilo's Last Year at Flamengo: A Veteran's Farewell

Danilo has finally had time to breathe, and with it has come clarity about how he wants his story to end.

The veteran defender, speaking at a press conference at Flamengo’s Ninho do Urubu training ground, admitted that the last contract cycle passed in a blur, dominated by the demands of international football.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said.

The calendar, the travel, the pressure of one more World Cup – all of it pushed contract talks into the background. Only now, he explained, has he been able to sit down calmly with Flamengo’s hierarchy and map out what comes next.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

That is the plan: one last dance in red and black.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester City full-back underlined that negotiations have been smooth, with no friction on either side and a shared understanding of what this final chapter should look like. No drama, no stand-off – just a veteran trying to align his farewell with the club he loves.

“We have spoken very calmly,” he continued. “Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

For Danilo, this is not just about a contract. It is about closing the circle. He wants to walk away on his own terms, wearing the shirt that shaped him, inside a structure he trusts.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening,” he said, sounding assured rather than hopeful. “And hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

One final year, one final push for silverware. Danilo has drawn the line in the sand. Now Flamengo must help turn his farewell into a title chase worthy of a career’s last page.
