David Oduro Leaves Barça Atletic for Annecy in Ligue 2
David Oduro’s time at FC Barcelona is over. The Ghanaian left-back, who arrived two years ago with a contract running until 2027, is leaving Barça Atletic to continue his career at Annecy in France’s Ligue 2.
The Haute-Savoie club confirmed his signing on Saturday, closing a chapter that never quite took off in Barcelona but showed enough promise to attract interest abroad.
Oduro was part of the group of African talents Barça brought in alongside Aziz Issah and Ibrahim Diarra. His debut season stalled almost before it began: bureaucratic issues kept him sidelined for weeks and restricted him to just 10 appearances. Once cleared, he started to show why the club had bet on him, but the stop-start rhythm hurt his progression.
Last season, the picture improved. Oduro featured in 23 matches and finally enjoyed a run of continuity, offering energy on the flank and more reliability in his defensive work. Even so, the club and player now go their separate ways, with the 20-year-old opting for a fresh start in French football.
Left-back reshuffle under Belletti
His departure is part of a wider overhaul on the left side of Barça Atletic’s defence. Juliano Belletti will start the season without either of last year’s main options: Oduro has gone to Annecy and Jofre Torrents has moved to Ajax.
To cover the gap, Barça have brought in Josué Caicedo, who has impressed during pre-season and looks ready to compete for minutes straight away. The staff must also decide on the role of Jordi Pesquer, who has been training with the first team and sits at a crossroads between staying with the reserves or pushing for a more permanent senior dynamic.
Belletti’s options do not end there. The squad already includes Alex Walton, while Patricio Pacifico is also on the books, though he faces a lengthy spell out as he recovers from an ACL injury. During pre-season, the coach has even tested Landry Farre at left-back, searching for versatility and balance in a position that has suddenly become one of the most open battles in the team.
Oduro, meanwhile, swaps the pressure of breaking through at Barcelona for the demands of Ligue 2, where regular minutes and a clear role at Annecy could define the next step in his career.
