Fenerbahce Sign Mason Greenwood in Record-Breaking Deal
Fenerbahce have beaten heavyweight competition to land Mason Greenwood, striking a deal with Marseille that underlines both the scale of their ambition and the financial reality in France.
Foot Mercato report that the Turkish club have agreed a total package worth €42m (£35.6m), built around a €40m fixed fee and a further €2m in performance-related bonuses. For a player Marseille had tied down until June 2029, this is not just a sale. It is a reset.
Marseille cash in, records fall
Marseille did not lack suitors. Atletico Madrid pushed hard. Al-Ahli from the Saudi Pro League put more money on the table. On the balance sheet, those offers made sense.
But Greenwood chose Istanbul.
His preference for Fenerbahce over La Liga and Saudi Arabia shaped the outcome of the saga, leaving Marseille to accept a slightly lower bid than they could have secured elsewhere. For a club under strict cost-cutting orders from the OM hierarchy, the decision still felt unavoidable.

Greenwood leaves France with the kind of output that forces clubs to open their wallets. Across two seasons in Ligue 1 and cup competitions, he delivered 48 goals and 17 assists in 81 appearances. That is elite production, whatever the league, whatever the system.

This is not an isolated splash. Head coach Ismail Kartal is orchestrating a full-scale rebuild at Fenerbahce, and Greenwood drops into a squad being aggressively reshaped for the demands of both the Super Lig and Europe.
He will join fellow marquee arrivals Nathan Ake and Vedat Muriqi in a dressing room that suddenly looks deeper, more dangerous, and far less predictable. On paper, the blend is intriguing: Greenwood’s cutting edge, Ake’s composure and versatility, Muriqi’s physical presence. On the pitch, Kartal now has options he simply did not possess last season.
The challenge comes quickly. Greenwood will be expected to slot in at pace, carry his Marseille form into a new league, and handle the intensity of a fanbase that lives every week as a verdict.
