Tyson Fury Plans to Invite Donald Trump for Anthony Joshua Showdown
Tyson Fury is known for turning his boxing matches into unforgettable spectacles, often featuring dramatic entrances filled with pyrotechnics and music to energize fans both in the arena and watching at home. Now, he seems ready to add another twist for his highly anticipated bout against fellow British heavyweight and former unified champion Anthony Joshua.
The fight is set for December 11th at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, promising to be one of the biggest events in British boxing history. Yet, Fury’s latest plan could stir some controversy: he intends to invite the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to join him during his ring walk.
The Long-Awaited Fury vs Joshua Clash
After years of delays caused by fighter disagreements and unfortunate losses on both sides, the superfight between Fury and Joshua finally appears to be happening on British soil. Fury has openly stated he aims for the largest payday possible, even if it risks the fight not going ahead. When talks briefly suggested Madison Square Garden in New York as the venue, Fury was eager to sign, knowing the location would mean a hefty paycheck.
On the other hand, Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn insisted the fight remain in the UK, with Joshua willing to take a significant pay cut to make that happen. The decision settled on the nearly 74,000-seat Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Fury’s Theatrical Ring Walks
Regardless of venue, Fury has built a reputation for creating lively atmospheres through his extravagant entrances. In 2020, during his rematch against Deontay Wilder, where he earned the WBC title by handing Wilder his first defeat, Fury entered wearing a robe and crown while seated on a throne at the MGM Grand. Their trilogy fight in 2021 saw him dressed as a Spartan warrior, walking out to AC/DC’s "You Shook Me All Night Long."
In his 2022 WBC title defense against Dillian Whyte at Wembley, Fury blended songs like "American Pie," "Jerusalem," and "Your Sex Is On Fire," while sporting gear inspired by the English flag. His two fights against Oleksandr Usyk featured themed entrances as well—"Holding Out For A Hero" in May 2024 and opening with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" in their December rematch.
Trump’s Possible Role in the Megafight
For the clash with Joshua, Fury plans to up the ante once again but this time by inviting Donald Trump to accompany him during his entrance. Fury said,
"I'll definitely make that offer to my old buddy, and we'll see if he's available. It's probably unlikely because of the situation he's in at the moment, being the President of the United States."
Fury’s comment points to Trump’s busy schedule amid the upcoming mid-term elections and ongoing international conflicts. Plus, with the fight taking place outside the U.S., the chance of Trump accepting the invitation seems slim.
