FIFA Reports Record $9.89 Billion Spent in Global Summer Transfer Window

FIFA has revealed that the summer transfer window following the 2026 World Cup saw record-breaking spending in both men’s and women’s football, with English clubs leading global investment.

Record-High Transfer Activity

The latest International Transfer Snapshot from FIFA shows that between June 1 and September 2, clubs worldwide spent a staggering $9.89 billion on men’s international transfers. Over 12,500 deals were completed during this period, marking an all-time high for the mid-year window.

In women’s professional football, the growth was just as remarkable. A total of 1,406 international transfers took place, with spending more than doubling from 2025 to reach an unprecedented $28.6 million. This highlights the rapid expansion of the women's game globally.

The 2026 World Cup Impact

The 2026 FIFA World Cup played a huge role in fueling this transfer surge. Players who appeared at the tournament in North America were highly sought after in the market. FIFA reports that 267 players from 47 different countries moved clubs during the summer window, generating over $3.3 billion in combined transfer fees.

This event offered a platform for established stars to confirm their elite status and for emerging talents to secure lucrative moves by impressing on football's biggest stage.

English Clubs Lead the Spending

English clubs topped the global transfer charts, investing $3.02 billion in men's transfers and completing the most incoming deals worldwide. Italy ranked second with $1.1 billion spent, while French clubs earned the highest value in outgoing transfer fees, totaling $1.7 billion.

In the women's market, English teams also led spending with $8.0 million, ahead of Spain and Germany. Swedish clubs received the largest transfer fees, bringing in $4.2 million, surpassing English and French teams.
