Four Fantasy Differentials to Consider for Gameweek 2
The deadline is set for 18:30 BST on Friday. Mini-leagues are already taking shape, and Gameweek 2 of the 2026/27 Fantasy Premier League season is the first real chance to correct early mistakes or press home an advantage. Four names stand out as potential game-changers.
Cole Palmer (Chelsea) £9.5m
*Back under the spotlight – and thriving*
Cole Palmer walked into Craven Cottage on Monday and walked out with his first double-digit Fantasy return in more than half a year. Chelsea edged Fulham 3-2, but Palmer did more than just score and assist. He dominated.
He fired four shots inside the box – more than in any single match last season – and completed eight take-ons, the highest total of his Premier League career. He wanted the ball, demanded it, and drove at defenders relentlessly.
Early signs suggest Xabi Alonso is building a system that puts the England international at its heart. That’s exactly where Palmer was in 2023/24, when he racked up 244 Fantasy points and became a must-own asset.
There was a brief scare when he was substituted in Gameweek 1 and flagged in the game, but Alonso moved quickly on Wednesday, insisting Palmer is “absolutely fine”. For Fantasy managers, that clears the path.
Next up? Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge – the same opponent he tore apart with a four-goal haul the last time they visited. Those memories, combined with his current form and freedom, make him one of the standout premium midfielders for Gameweek 2.
Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) £9.5m
*Fitness doubts gone. Points potential back on the table.*
Plenty of managers swerved Bukayo Saka in Gameweek 1. Limited pre-season minutes and a delayed return from England duty at the FIFA World Cup raised understandable doubts about his sharpness and pitch-time.
Mikel Arteta ignored those doubts. Saka went straight into Arsenal’s starting XI against Coventry City and promptly marked the new campaign with a goal in a comfortable 3-0 win.
He lasted 67 minutes – enough to build match fitness, enough to reassure managers that his minutes are no longer a concern. His Fantasy pedigree is proven: he averaged 5.7 points per start last season. When he plays, he delivers.
The fixture ticker might spook some. Arsenal now face Aston Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland, none of them rated below three in the Fixture Difficulty Ratings. On paper, it’s a tricky run.
On the pitch, those defences have already shown cracks. The three sides shipped eight goals between them in Gameweek 1. Villa looked especially fragile, thumped 4-0 and now missing their midfield protector Joao Gomes (£5.5m) through suspension.
Saka doesn’t need soft fixtures to score. With his minutes restored and his penalty-taking threat still intact, leaving him out for this run now looks far riskier than backing him.
Yoane Wissa (Newcastle) £6.0m
*A fit Wissa, a new role, and a golden run of fixtures*
Last season never really started for Yoane Wissa. An early injury cut into his rhythm and kept him on the fringes. Eddie Howe insisted throughout that 2026/27 would be different.
So far, he’s right.
Wissa arrived at Newcastle’s pre-season on the back of three World Cup goals, then kept that momentum with a brace in a friendly against Valencia. In Gameweek 1, he added an assist in a pulsating 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
His performance in that match was about more than the numbers. The DR Congo international operated in a tweaked No 10 role, linking play and driving at Liverpool’s back line, before being pushed up front in the second half. He looked dangerous in both positions.
That versatility might now be rewarded. With William Osula (£6.0m) a possible fitness concern for Gameweek 2, the centre-forward role could open up for Wissa on a more permanent basis.
The schedule only strengthens his case. Across Newcastle’s next nine fixtures, none rates higher than three in the FDR:

There’s another angle too. With Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes (£7.0m) gone, Newcastle’s penalty hierarchy is up for reshuffle. Wissa has converted 13 of his 15 career spot-kicks. If he steps up from 12 yards as well as open play, £6.0m could look like a serious bargain.
Timothy Castagne (Fulham) £4.5m
*Full-back with a licence to attack – and fixtures to match*
Fulham’s calendar is quietly turning in their favour. Between Gameweeks 6 and 8 they face all three promoted clubs in succession. Before that, Sunderland away and Crystal Palace at home offer two more encouraging opportunities.
Timothy Castagne has already made his mark against tougher opposition. He produced two assists in the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea on Monday, showing exactly how he can hurt teams under Alvaro Arbeloa.
The warning signs were there in pre-season. Fulham’s full-backs kept getting forward and getting returns. Across the final five warm-up matches, Castagne, Ryan Sessegnon (£4.5m) and Antonee Robinson (£4.5m) combined for six attacking contributions.
Castagne himself summed up the approach: defenders first, but unleashed at the right moments. “Obviously you need to know your responsibilities – we cannot go every time, you need to pick your moments – but when we go, we have licence to kill. We can go full, and both full-backs at the same time. That’s why Sess scored Wednesday from my cross, because we can both go in the box at the same time. It will be fun this season.”
For Fantasy managers, that “licence to kill” from both flanks is exactly what you want from a £4.5m defender with a softening run of fixtures. If Fulham tighten up at the back, Castagne has the profile to turn clean sheets into double-figure hauls.
Gameweek 2 arrives early and fast. Those who move decisively on players like Palmer, Saka, Wissa and Castagne could find their mini-leagues look very different by Friday night.
