He stressed that communication with the forward has been open and honest.
"Yes, for sure (he's spoken to Jesus). Those conversations go both ways, but I'm very satisfied with how these conversations went because I know what is in each other's hearts.
"The words that come through in those conversations make me really happy. It's inevitable at some point you need to have certain discussions and say certain things that sometimes are tough."
Arteta’s comments underline a delicate balance: respect for a senior player, but also a clear recognition that hard decisions are arriving.
Reports earlier in the summer suggested Jesus himself had shown some reluctance about a move to Napoli. Whether his stance has softened remains unclear. That uncertainty has hovered over negotiations, even as the Italian club reshaped their attack.
