Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6
No chance with Bournemouth’s opener, but he kept City alive with two excellent stops, first getting down sharply to Justin Kluivert’s low drive and then reacting brilliantly to claw away Daniel Jebbison’s flicked header.
Rico Lewis – 5
Stepped inside from right-back to form an extra midfielder and got himself into advanced positions, forcing an early save. After that, his touch and decision-making deserted him and he was withdrawn before he could make a real mark.
Abdukodir Khusanov – 5
His missed challenge on Rayan opened the door for Bournemouth’s first goal and he never recovered the situation. A shaky afternoon that set the tone for City’s uncertain defending.
Ruben Dias – 5
The new captain misjudged the long ball over the top for the opener, failing to deal with what should have been a straightforward header. Led vocally, but his defending did not match the armband on this occasion.
Josko Gvardiol – 7
Caught in no-man’s land for Bournemouth’s goal, nowhere near the danger as the move unfolded. Then came redemption. Pushed on late, found his moment in stoppage time and finished with icy composure to steal the points.
Marc Guehi – 6
Asked to anchor midfield in an unfamiliar holding role and looked like a defender learning on the job. Still, he timed his run well to grab a late equaliser. With Ayyoub Bouaddi arriving, this may be a one-off experiment.
Elliot Anderson – 6
The club-record signing covered serious ground and repeatedly shut down Bournemouth breaks. Flashes rather than fireworks, but enough to hint at what he can bring once fully integrated.
Antoine Semenyo – 5
Lively in pre-season, subdued here. He never really imposed himself on the contest and drifted out of it as City chased a way back.
Nico O’Reilly – 5
Given the keys to the No 10 role but created little of real note. A few neat touches, nothing that hurt Bournemouth, and his number was up on the hour.
Phil Foden – 5
Started sharply, constantly on the ball and producing a gorgeous flick to tee up Lewis early on. As the game wore on, his influence faded and he struggled to find pockets of space.
Erling Haaland – 5
New haircut, same menace in theory, but the finishing deserted him. Somehow failed to convert from a couple of yards in the first half, then lashed one over and scuffed another wide after the break. The chances were there; the usual ruthlessness was not. The question now: has the trim taken a little edge off the talisman?

Slotted into midfield without changing the rhythm. Kept things tidy but left barely a trace on the game.
Rayan Cherki (on 62, O’Reilly) – 8
The spark City had been missing. Drifted between the lines, demanded the ball and ripped Bournemouth open with two assists. On this evidence, he will expect – and deserves – to start at Crystal Palace on Friday.
Mateo Kovacic (on 62, Anderson) – 5
Brought control but not incision. The lingering thought for City fans: should he have been in from the start instead of Guehi in midfield?
