Harry Kane Focuses on Titles After German Super Cup Win
Harry Kane brushed aside talk of the Ballon d'Or and turned the spotlight back on silverware after helping Bayern Munich edge Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to lift the German Super Cup.
The win adds yet another line to a rapidly expanding honours list. Since arriving in Munich, Kane has picked up the Golden Boot, the Bundesliga title, the German Cup and now the Super Cup, on top of the six goals he scored at the World Cup as England finished third. His CV, once defined by near misses, now reads like a serial winner’s log.
No Bayern player has claimed the Ballon d'Or since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and the England captain was asked directly about ending that drought. He batted it away.
"A new season has begun, and it is nice to start it by winning a cup like the Super Cup. It is true that last season was the best of my career, but I am now focused on the new season," he told Marca, steering the conversation firmly back to team targets rather than personal glory.
The Super Cup may be the curtain-raiser, but Kane made it clear it is only the opening act.
"We have to fight for all the titles again, including the Champions League," he said. "The Super Cup is the first of four titles we will fight for, and I hope we continue on this path."
On the night, Kane played the full 90 minutes without delivering the kind of ruthless finishing Bayern fans have grown used to. He didn’t score. He didn’t quite dominate. Yet the broader picture is impossible to ignore: 146 goals in 148 appearances for the club, and now heading into his fourth season in Bavaria as the undisputed focal point of their attack.
With numbers like that, the Ballon d'Or talk will keep circling. Kane, though, sounded equally calm about something that usually fuels speculation in Munich: his contract.
"We will talk this week and next week. We will have an open discussion, and we are not in a hurry or feeling panicked," he said.
Trophies are flowing, the goals keep coming, and Bayern’s No 9 is in no rush. The awards can wait; the hunt for more titles clearly cannot.
