Harry Wilson Injury Doubt for Wales in Nations League

Wales’ return to the top tier of the Nations League has been dealt an early blow, with Harry Wilson now a serious doubt for the start of the campaign.

The Leeds United forward had been named in Craig Bellamy’s squad for a demanding run of fixtures against Portugal, Denmark and Norway in September and October. Those games were set to lean heavily on Wilson’s experience and end product.

That plan is now in jeopardy.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke confirmed on Friday that the 29-year-old has suffered a quadriceps muscle injury and will miss Sunday’s Premier League game at Elland Road against Crystal Palace.

“Harry Wilson is out of this game, a quad injury, he reported some problems after the last game and also during this training week,” Farke said of the 69-cap international, who has scored 17 times for Wales.

The concern runs beyond Leeds.

“He will also probably miss the Welsh games, so definitely not good news for him and also not for the Welsh team,” Farke added.

For Bellamy, who is preparing to lead Wales back into League A against some of Europe’s elite, the potential loss of one of his most seasoned attackers leaves a sizeable gap. With Portugal, Denmark and Norway looming, the question now is who steps up if Wilson cannot make it.
