Hibs Boss David Gray Remains Optimistic Despite Home Struggles

Hibs boss David Gray is refusing to panic despite a grim statistic hanging over Easter Road.

Hibernian have lost five Scottish Premiership home games on the bounce and have not tasted a league victory in Leith since April – that win a convincing 3-0 dismantling of Tuesday’s visitors Kilmarnock. Since then, the stands have watched Hearts twice, Motherwell twice and Celtic all leave with maximum points.

The numbers are ugly. Gray isn’t buying the story they tell.

The head coach insists performances have not matched the scorelines and sees this week as a chance to flip the mood. Kilmarnock arrive on Tuesday night (19:45 BST), with Aberdeen to follow in Edinburgh on Saturday.

“Big chance here, two home games to get into this international break in a really strong position,” Gray said, looking ahead to a potentially defining few days.

He believes the foundations are there.

“There have been some really positive performances at home. It's definitely in us.”

Gray is well aware of the narrative around his team’s home form, but he bristles at the idea that one statistic should define them.

“You can find a stat to drive whatever narrative you're looking for. I look at them all in isolation, in games. The only stat, the only thing that matters, is that score in the top corner of the screen when it's on the telly.”

The message is clear: tidy up in both boxes, and the storyline changes quickly.

“For us to be successful, you need strong home form and we've got a chance, with back-to-back games, to try and put that right.”

Two matches. One stadium. A brutal run to confront. Hibs now have to decide whether Easter Road becomes a burden or a weapon again.
