Freiburg striker Igor Matanovic has finally spoken out about the swirling rumours connecting him with moves to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. After a powerful start to the Bundesliga season, the tall forward remains focused on his current role, dismissing suggestions of an imminent switch to England.

Interest from Premier League Clubs

Both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Matanovic. The two clubs are looking to strengthen their attacking options, with United particularly seeking a replacement for Joshua Zirkzee, who is linked with Fiorentina.

He explained, "People think success comes from hard training, which is true, but football is mostly a mental game. If you’re clear-headed, not overthinking or hesitating, things fall into place. If I start brooding or lose confidence, it doesn’t work."

Matanovic’s profile has risen sharply since his move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Freiburg last summer. He netted 15 goals across all competitions during his first season, helping Freiburg reach the Europa League final, where they were defeated by Aston Villa.

Reflecting on his transfer, he said, "Yes, of course. It was a big step. Thanks to Freiburg, I also played at the World Cup, which was a huge achievement for me as a young player."

Though he did not score during his appearances for Croatia at the World Cup against England, Ghana, and Portugal, the experience seems to have boosted his confidence for the current campaign.

Matanovic is under contract with Freiburg until June 2029, so the club isn’t pressured to sell. Both Manchester United and Tottenham will need to submit strong offers before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday if they want to secure his signature.
