Ismaila Sarr Injury Update: Palace Denies Transfer Strike
Liverpool’s pursuit of Ismaila Sarr has hit another layer of intrigue, but this time Crystal Palace are adamant the story is far more straightforward than the rumour mill suggests.

After Liverpool’s move for Yankuba Minteh collapsed, attention swung sharply to Sarr, with the Anfield club lodging a £50 million bid and Galatasaray also circling. That was enough to spark claims that the winger had stopped training to force a transfer.
Palace manager Sage has moved quickly to kill that narrative.
“Ismaila Sarr is injured. He is in pain with his groin – that’s why you didn’t see him with us today,” Sage said, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. “He is in individual training because he is really in pain with his groin. But we’ll prepare him, he needs time.”
No stand-off. No strike. Just an injury, according to the man picking the team.
Groin problem rules Sarr out again
The 28-year-old has already missed Palace’s Premier League opener against Everton and will also be unavailable for Friday night’s meeting with Manchester City. For a side that leans heavily on his pace and direct running, it is a significant absence.
Sage knows the speculation will not stop while the window remains open, especially with Liverpool’s offer on the table and three years still left on Sarr’s contract. But he is convinced the player will stay professional.
“It’s always difficult for a player when your name is associated with a club like Liverpool,” he admitted. “For the moment, the most important thing is to understand the player is not able to play and is in treatment, and what happens with his potential future is really far from me.”
Noise, pressure and private talks
The noise around Sarr has grown louder by the day. Links to Liverpool, Galatasaray and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal have all surfaced, with the clock ticking on the transfer window and every absence scrutinised.
Sage has taken the conversation behind closed doors. He met privately with Sarr this week, determined to keep the winger’s mindset clear as the outside world debates his future.
“I understand that for everybody to have this kind of contact is difficult, because you hesitate a lot,” Sage said. “But for the moment, he is with us. He is under contract. He is injured and maybe you can make a link between his injury and the situation. But for me, he is honest and I have no problem with that.”
So the picture, from Palace’s side at least, is blunt: their £50m target for Liverpool is not downing tools, he is in the treatment room. The question now is whether he leaves it as a Crystal Palace player or walks out of it bound for Anfield.
