Jamal Musiala Reveals Neurological Condition After Collapses

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is undergoing treatment for a neurological condition after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days.

The Bayern Munich midfielder went down six minutes after coming off the bench in a 4-2 friendly win at Heidenheim on Tuesday, looking dazed as medical staff rushed to him. He was treated on the field before being helped from the pitch, leaving teammates and staff visibly concerned.

That scene had an unsettling familiarity. On Saturday, during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig in Munich, Musiala had also collapsed, triggering immediate alarm inside the stadium.

This time, the 23-year-old chose to address the situation directly.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Musiala confirmed doctors had identified the cause.

“I've been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction,” he wrote.

“These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance - but for me, they're currently just part of my everyday life.

“I'm receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”

The club had already hinted that Musiala would speak publicly after the Heidenheim incident. Speaking post-match, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl made it clear the situation was known internally.

“We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said. “Jamal will speak out. He's in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower.”

For Musiala, this is another brutal interruption in a career already forced to absorb serious setbacks early.

He missed the first six months of last season after breaking his ankle at the 2025 Club World Cup, only returning in the second half of the campaign. Once fit, he quickly re-established himself, starting three of Germany’s four games at the 2026 World Cup.

Now, with a diagnosis on the table and treatment under way, the focus turns to how quickly one of Bayern’s most gifted players can safely resume his career – and how club and country manage a talent whose biggest battle, for the moment, lies away from the ball.
