Jamal Musiala Provides Update on Neurological Diagnosis

Jamal Musiala says he is “doing well” after being diagnosed with a neurological issue that explains the worrying on-field episodes he suffered in Bayern Munich’s recent friendlies.

The 21-year-old collapsed off the ball during Saturday’s game against RB Leipzig, a moment that sent a jolt through Bayern’s pre-season. He was cleared to rejoin Vincent Kompany’s squad for the final warm-up match against Heidenheim on Tuesday, but his return lasted only a few minutes. Shortly after coming off the bench in the second half, Musiala had to leave the pitch again, escorted by medical staff.

The images raised alarm. Musiala moved quickly to address it.

On his Instagram channel, the Germany international revealed he has been diagnosed with “brief, temporary but readily treatable absences, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction.”

“These can lead to the episodes that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim,” he wrote.

He stressed that, despite how dramatic the incidents may have looked, he remains confident and in control of the situation.

“First things first – I’m doing well. I’m especially grateful for all your messages and your support,” Musiala said. “I understand that many of you are worried. Today, I’d like to put your minds at ease and explain the situation a little.”

“I know that they may seem scary at first glance – but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life. I am receiving the best possible medical treatment for this and I am very optimistic. FC Bayern and the people close to me are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”

The key line for Bayern fans and Germany supporters came next.

“The important thing is that there is no further health risk beyond this,” Musiala explained. In close consultation with specialists, he said it was his “personal wish” to continue playing and to stick as closely as possible to his normal routine.

“With the approval of the neurological specialists, [I want] to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply getting on with my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football,” he wrote. “I have taken responsibility for that decision. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I’m on the right track.”

For Musiala, the pitch is not a risk to be feared but part of the remedy.

“What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team, with your fantastic support,” he said.

He also drew a clear line around how much more he is willing to share.

“I hope this helps you understand me a little better. At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to continue keeping this matter within the circle of my closest confidants, the club and the experts.”

Bayern now move into the season with their creative fulcrum determined to play on, under close medical supervision, and with a diagnosis that offers clarity. The next question is not whether Musiala still shapes this team, but how strongly he can impose himself on a campaign that suddenly carries a very personal edge.
