Joel Mvuka Returns to Bodo/Glimt After Celtic Stint

Joel Mvuka has drawn a firm line under his brief Celtic chapter and gone back to the club that made him – and where he believes he can become himself again.

The 23-year-old winger has signed a four-year deal with Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt, sealing a permanent return after a loan spell at Celtic that never truly got going.

A Celtic spell that never caught fire

Mvuka arrived in Glasgow from Lorient with pace, promise and a reputation as a livewire wide man. What he never got was rhythm.

Across the season he managed just one start for Celtic, in the Scottish Cup against Dundee. His only other notable outing came off the bench in the high-stakes glare of a Glasgow derby, as Celtic beat Rangers at Ibrox in the same competition.

That was it. No Premiership minutes. No run of games. No chance to build any sort of momentum before he was sent back to Lorient in the summer.

He knows it. He admits it.

“I haven't played very much, but I feel like I have gained good experience even though I didn't get to play many games,” he told The National, reflecting on a campaign that tested his patience more than his legs.

Back where it worked

Now he has chosen the familiar over the unknown. Bodo/Glimt is not just a former club; it is the place where his career first accelerated.

Mvuka has gone back to a dressing room he already understands, to a style of football that once suited him, and to a community where he felt at ease.

“I had a pretty good time in Glimt. I made a lot of friends, had a good time both on and off the field. That's something I took into account when coming back,” he said.

“I've been following Bodo/Glimt since I left and I've seen that they've become a much better team.”

The move is not a sentimental lap of honour. It is a calculated step towards regular football and a platform he trusts.

“I can take that experience with me. I have also become older and more experienced and I have returned as a better player. It's great to be back. I'm doing well and have improved since I was last here.”

A bigger stage in sight

Glimt’s rise in Europe has not gone unnoticed by their returning winger. The club has pushed its way into the continental conversation, and Mvuka wants to be part of the next chapter.

“It would have been cool to get into the league phase of the Champions League two years in a row. It's a good match between me and the club.”

That line says plenty. Game time, growth, and a shot at the Champions League’s new league phase – this is the stage he is chasing.

His Celtic story ends quietly, almost in a whisper. His second spell at Bodo/Glimt begins with a clear demand: play, perform, and prove that the player Glasgow barely saw is ready to be a leading act again.
