Julian Alvarez’s turbulent summer is beginning to leave scars far beyond the pitch.
What started as a drawn-out transfer saga involving Atletico Madrid and Barcelona has now shaken the foundations of the Argentine’s inner circle. According to Onda Cero, Alvarez is seriously weighing up a split from his long-time agent Fernando Hidalgo, the man who has been at his side for his entire professional career.
That relationship, once solid, now looks fractured. The failed manoeuvring around a possible move to Barcelona, the tension with Atletico, and the swirl of mixed messages during the height of the market have all reportedly eroded the trust between player and representative.
A new agency on the horizon
Alvarez has already taken a first step towards a possible break. He is said to have held initial talks with The Elegant Game, the agency fronted by former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore.
There is a familiar face there. The firm already represents his close friend and Argentina teammate Enzo Fernandez, a detail that could smooth any transition if Alvarez decides to cut ties with Hidalgo. Those around the forward, according to Mundo Deportivo, have been pushing for this move for some time, convinced that his career and off-field affairs have been mishandled during a chaotic period.
Inside the Metropolitano, fingers are being pointed. Atletico’s hierarchy believe Alvarez’s current representation played a major role in the confusion over Barcelona’s interest and the subsequent clashes during contract talks.
CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has been especially outspoken. He painted a bleak picture of the player’s current mindset, and he did not spare those in Alvarez’s entourage.
“Julian is really in a bad way. There have been people who have taken it upon themselves to deceive him, to confuse him,” Gil Marin said, laying bare the club’s frustration with the forces around their striker.

All of this unfolds while Alvarez’s relationship with Atletico’s supporters crumbles.

His behaviour has only sharpened the edges.
