Robert Lewandowski Praises Barcelona’s Rodri Signing and Reflects on Emotional Camp Nou Departure

Robert Lewandowski, who recently moved from Europe to join the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer, has expressed strong support for Barcelona's signing of Rodri from Manchester City. The Polish striker believes the Spanish midfielder brings the leadership and experience that Hansi Flick's squad needs following Lewandowski's own departure.

After leaving Camp Nou, Lewandowski left a notable leadership gap in the dressing room. To fill this void, Flick pushed hard for Rodri’s arrival, viewing him as the right player to take over responsibility in midfield.

Speaking with Radio Marca, Lewandowski highlighted Rodri's qualities. He praised the former Man City player for his tactical understanding and consistency on major international stages.

"He’s a player who knows what the team needs, how to play going forward, but also how to contribute a little more in defence," Lewandowski said. "He’s the kind of experienced player I think this team needs. He’s been performing at the highest level not just at the World Cup, but for many years now."

Looking Back on His Time at Barcelona

Lewandowski also reflected on his four years in Catalonia after joining Barcelona in 2022. During his tenure, he helped the club win three La Liga titles and earned the Pichichi trophy before deciding it was time for a new chapter.

"It was a very special four years for me in Barcelona," he said. "But there comes a time when you have to try something different and take a new step, and I’m very happy now."

Adjusting to Life in the United States

The transition to Major League Soccer and life in Chicago has required patience for Lewandowski. Moving from Europe to the US is a big change both culturally and in terms of football style.

"It’s normal [to need time], not only because I’m leaving Europe, but also because I’m moving to the United States," he admitted.

Keeping Tabs on Barcelona’s Progress

Even as he settles in with the Chicago Fire, Lewandowski remains engaged with Barcelona’s journey under Hansi Flick. He supports his former club and teammates from afar, hopeful about their future success.

"I’m not a very emotional person, I’m more cold-hearted, but this is a moment when I’ll always be there to support and help FC Barcelona and my former teammates," he said. "I’m watching what’s happening now and I’m sure they’re going to win a lot of games."

Barcelona now looks to build on their recent achievements with Rodri anchoring the midfield, aiming to meet the high expectations of fans and players alike.
