Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has hit a dangerous crossroads – and Arsenal are lurking.
The Paris Saint-Germain winger has been Liverpool’s priority attacking target for much of the summer. Personal terms are understood to be agreed, Barcola is keen on Anfield, and the path looked relatively clear. The problem sits where it so often does: the fee.
Reports in France suggested last week that all parties expected a deal to be struck. Fabrice Hawkins claimed “everyone involved” believed an agreement would eventually be found between Liverpool and PSG for the 23-year-old. That optimism is now being tested.
Arsenal back in the picture

Liverpool are said to value Barcola at a maximum of £120m. PSG, European champions and in no mood to be squeezed, are holding out for £130m up front plus up to £15m in add-ons. It’s a sizeable gap, and one that has opened the door at the Emirates.
The Gunners are reportedly being kept fully briefed on the situation and, despite Barcola having already signalled his approval for a move to Merseyside, it’s claimed he could be “tempted” by a switch to north London if Liverpool cannot close the deal.
One source told the outlet: “Liverpool and PSG still have no agreement on Barcola; there’s a significant gap in valuation. Arsenal haven’t completely gone away and could aggressively enter the conversation again if it becomes clear this deal is really stalling.”
That’s the threat. Liverpool have done the groundwork, but Arsenal are waiting for the slightest opening.
A deal Liverpool can’t afford to lose
Right now, Liverpool remain Barcola’s preferred destination. That matters. But every day without progress invites doubt, and every delay offers Arsenal more encouragement.
Liverpool’s stance is understandable. No club wants to be dragged into paying above what they consider fair value, especially at these numbers. Yet there comes a point in any major transfer where the question flips: what is the cost of walking away?
If the gap is effectively £10m between Liverpool’s valuation and PSG’s demand, that figure suddenly becomes more than just a number on a balance sheet. It becomes the difference between landing a long-term attacking cornerstone and watching him line up for a direct rival.
Andoni Iraola heads into the Premier League opener against Newcastle with Federico Chiesa as his only natural right winger. Barcola, primarily a left-sided forward, offers the kind of versatility elite squads are built on, comfortable operating across the front line and already proven at the highest level.
PSG have frozen him out amid the uncertainty over his future. That harms the player, but it should embolden Liverpool. A decisive, improved offer from sporting director Richard Hughes could exploit that tension in Paris and finally crack the deadlock.
The stakes are brutally simple. Miss out on Barcola now and it will sting. Watch him unveiled at Arsenal and it becomes something far worse: a self-inflicted blow in a title race that leaves little margin for error.
