Liverpool Pursues Bradley Barcola Amid PSG Exit Talks
Liverpool’s rebuild in attack has taken a sharp turn towards Paris. Bradley Barcola, one of the rising stars of France’s World Cup campaign, is firmly in the sights at Anfield – and this time Liverpool have moved with intent.
The 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward is open to leaving the European champions, and Liverpool have lodged a fresh approach as they reshape a forward line suddenly full of holes.
An attack in transition
Mo Salah has gone. Hugo Ekitike is facing a long spell out. Cody Gakpo, once central to the previous regime’s plans, is now being linked with the exit door after Arne Slot’s dismissal and the swift appointment of Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool have already laid down serious money. Victor Munoz has arrived in a £34million deal. An eye-watering £86m bid for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande was knocked back without a second thought. The message from Anfield is clear: the front line will be rebuilt, and quickly.
Barcola sits near the top of that list.
World Cup form, Premier League pull
According to French outlet Le10 Sport, Liverpool have made a new attempt to prise Barcola away from PSG, with the player said to be tempted by the move. The lure is obvious: a leading role in a retooled Liverpool attack and the chance to test himself in the Premier League at his peak years.
His timing could hardly be better. Barcola scored in France’s World Cup opener last week, coming off the bench and finding the net late in a 3-1 win over Senegal after barely two minutes on the pitch. He then earned a start in Monday’s rain-lashed 3-0 victory against Iraq, underlining his growing status in Didier Deschamps’ squad.
When a player shines on the biggest stage, the market reacts. Liverpool are doing exactly that.
PSG ready to listen – at a price
Inside PSG, the stance is nuanced. The club are willing to sanction Barcola’s departure if he formally asks to leave. They have already drawn up a list of potential replacements, a sign that they are preparing for all outcomes rather than slamming the door.
That does not mean a bargain. Barcola joined PSG from Lyon three years ago in a deal worth up to £43m, and his numbers since then are strong: 39 goals and 35 assists in 152 appearances. A 23-year-old France international, productive at club level and now scoring at a World Cup, will not be allowed to walk for anything less than a sizeable profit.
Arsenal are also in the frame, monitoring the situation as they look to add more incision to their own front line. Any auction between Premier League heavyweights would only drive PSG’s demands higher.
Torn between coach and project
Barcola himself has kept his counsel. No public declarations, no transfer hints. Just performances.
Luis Enrique, though, has never hidden his admiration. The PSG manager pushed hard for the club to “bank” on Barcola as one of the pillars of a younger, more dynamic side and spoke last season with absolute conviction.
“I have no doubt he’ll remain our player,” Enrique said. “We like the fact that our players are interesting to other clubs. But he’s one of those young players we’ve been banking on. I expect him to play here for many more years.”
Those words still hang in the air. Yet the landscape has shifted. Liverpool’s project – a refreshed attack, a new coach, a central role on one of Europe’s grandest stages – has clearly caught Barcola’s eye.
If the France forward decides he wants Anfield, PSG will face a choice: fight to keep a coach’s favourite, or cash in at the height of his value and reshape again.
Liverpool have made their move. The next one belongs to Barcola.
