Liverpool's Transfer Plans: Ngumoha Untouchable, Gakpo Seeking Exit

Liverpool’s summer plans are beginning to take shape, and they revolve around two very different wingers.

On one side is Rio Ngumoha, 17 years old and suddenly untouchable. On the other is Cody Gakpo, an established Netherlands international who, according to reports in his homeland, now wants to walk away from Anfield.

Liverpool dig in over Ngumoha

Bayern Munich have been circling Ngumoha, seeing the teenager as the ideal answer to their search for a new left‑winger. A year ago, they might have had encouragement.

Not now.

TEAMtalk transfer reporter Graeme Bailey says Liverpool have “no plans whatsoever” to sell Ngumoha in this window, despite Bayern’s interest and attention from other leading European clubs. The club are instead preparing talks over a new contract for the former Chelsea prospect, underlining how sharply his status has risen in a matter of months.

The Secret Scout account on X, which has closely tracked Ngumoha’s progress, backed up that stance and lifted the lid on Liverpool’s change of heart. When the youngster arrived in 2024, the plan was far more flexible: he was expected to play for the under-18s and under-21s, and Liverpool were open to the idea of a sale to a European club with a buy-back style option.

His performances have ripped that script up.

Those displays over the season have forced Liverpool to reassess. The club now regard him as a potential elite winger and, according to the report, believe he can become “one of the best wingers in the world”. Any deal, they insist privately, would require a “huge” fee before they would even think about it.

For Bayern, and anyone else watching, the message is clear: Ngumoha is no longer a prospect to be traded. He is part of the project.

Gakpo unsettled after Slot sacking

If Ngumoha is being pulled closer to the inner circle, Gakpo appears to be edging towards the door.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to hold “serious interest” in the 25-year-old, and the same report claims work has already begun behind the scenes in north London on a plan to convince both the player and Liverpool in the coming weeks.

For Spurs, Gakpo would represent a versatile attacking addition with Premier League and European pedigree. For Liverpool, his departure would open another question in a forward line already in flux and place more pressure on the club to get their recruitment right under Iraola.

Iraola turns to familiar face Alex Scott

The new Liverpool head coach is expected to make his mark first in midfield, and one name sits right at the top of his list: Alex Scott.

Journalist Jamie Dickenson reported on X that Liverpool are weighing up a £40 million bid for the Bournemouth midfielder. The Cherries, though, value their 22-year-old star at around £60m after a standout campaign on the south coast.

Scott is currently in Miami with Thomas Tuchel’s England squad and is poised to make his Three Lions debut in a friendly against New Zealand, but his club future is already a live issue. A reunion with Iraola, who helped shape his breakout season at Bournemouth, would make him a logical first signing of the new regime at Anfield.

Liverpool are not alone in the chase. Manchester United and Tottenham, the club Scott supported as a boy, are also monitoring the situation, aware that his price is unlikely to fall and his stock is unlikely to dip if his trajectory continues.

Liverpool’s interest in Scott comes alongside admiration for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, rated at around £100m. Yet Iraola will also be under pressure to maximise the talent already in the building after last summer’s £415m outlay on the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and others.

The balance is delicate. Invest again, but make it count.

Ngumoha’s elevation, Gakpo’s unrest, Scott’s possible arrival: all of it points to a Liverpool side being rapidly reshaped. The question now is not whether change is coming, but how bold Iraola and FSG are prepared to be with the pieces they choose to move.
