The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the largest ever, featuring 48 national teams. Hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada, this tournament will showcase both well-known giants and some of the lowest-ranked teams ever to qualify. Some squads aim to surprise the world, while others hope simply to make their mark on history.

Below are the teams with the lowest FIFA rankings that secured their spots and the challenges they will face in the competition.

5. Bosnia and Herzegovina

Known as the "Dragons," Bosnia and Herzegovina currently hold the No. 65 spot in the FIFA rankings, making them the least ranked UEFA representative this time. Their qualification stunned many, especially after knocking out Italy, four-time world champions, during European qualifying rounds.

Their peak ranking was No. 13 back in 2013, but since then they've dropped considerably. Their group includes Canada (27), Switzerland (17), and Qatar (51). On paper, this group appears manageable, giving Bosnia a shot at becoming one of the lowest-ranked teams to reach the knockout stage.

4. Ghana

The "Black Stars" are in a rebuilding phase, sitting at No. 74 now. This contrasts sharply with their golden era when they climbed to No. 14 in 2008.

The group stage promises a tough test: Panama (33), England (4), and Croatia (11) stand between Ghana and progress. The quality and experience of these opponents make Ghana’s path one of the most difficult.
