Renewed Interest in Defensive Reinforcements
The Red Devils have reignited their efforts to bring Balde to Old Trafford. Reports from Gerard Romero’s Jijantes FC reveal a fresh approach has been made in a final bid to acquire the young Spain international. Despite a summer of heavy spending—£150m invested mainly in midfield—the left-back spot remains a pressing concern for Manchester United’s coaching staff.
Earlier in the window, Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall was a top target, but the Magpies refused to sell their England youth star. This forced United to explore other options urgently.
Negotiations and Barcelona’s Position
Interest in Balde dates back to late August when talks occurred between United and his agent, Jorge Mendes. At that time, it seemed likely Balde would stay at Barcelona and compete for minutes under Hansi Flick. But things have shifted. Although he has been on the bench recently, Balde has yet to play a competitive minute this season.
The rise of 19-year-old Xabi Espart, who started all three league games so far, and the return of Joao Cancelo on a free transfer have squeezed Balde’s opportunities.
Financial Challenges and Deal Structure
The key sticking point revolves around how the deal would be structured and the financial demands involved. United prefer a loan deal covering the current season. Barcelona, grappling with financial issues, want a permanent sale to raise funds. They have set a valuation of £34 million for Balde and are holding firm to that price.
Other Targets Considered and Rejected
United looked elsewhere too, including Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas, who has a lower release clause of £13 million. Still, the club has opted not to pursue Salinas for now. Racing quickly signed Aaron Martin from Genoa as Salinas’ replacement, leaving United focused squarely on Balde.
