Manchester United Scout Eli Junior Kroupi in Bournemouth Match

Manchester United have stepped up their summer planning by sending scouts to the North-East to watch Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United – with one name dominating their notes: Eli Junior Kroupi.

The 19-year-old forward, in his first season in English football, has quickly become a live target for United’s recruitment team. Club staff have been tracking him closely in recent weeks and his performance at St James’ Park offered another chance to see him up close.

United’s delegation used the trip to run the rule over several other familiar names – Alex Scott, Marcus Tavernier, Sandro Tonali, Lewis Hall and Bruno Guimaraes were all on their radar – but Kroupi was the headline act. He is the one they went to see.

United’s hunt for a new forward

Inside Old Trafford, the brief for this window is clear: sign a versatile forward who can operate across the front line and potentially take the squad place of Joshua Zirkzee.

Kroupi fits that description almost perfectly. He has already reached double figures in his debut Premier League campaign, scoring 10 goals, and has shown he can play across the attacking line, even if most of his best work has come through the middle. That blend of productivity, flexibility and age is exactly what appeals to United’s new-look recruitment structure.

They are not alone.

A race across England and Europe

Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all tracking Kroupi’s rise at Bournemouth. On the continent, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig have also been keeping tabs on his progress, aware that this is a teenager adapting to the Premier League at impressive speed.

The growing list of admirers has forced Bournemouth to dig in.

The club sanctioned the sale of Antoine Semenyo in January and have no intention of losing another key attacker in the next window. Their stance is firm: Kroupi is not for sale.

The France youth international is under contract until 2030, a deal that gives Bournemouth significant leverage. They paid around £10m to bring him in from Lorient last summer; any bid that tempts them now would have to be many times that figure. Current estimates place his value around the £60m mark.

Bournemouth, aware of the attention, moved early. Talks over an improved contract began in February as a reward for Kroupi’s rapid impact and to reinforce their position ahead of what promises to be a busy summer.

Bournemouth’s European push – and looming summer tension

On the pitch, Kroupi’s priorities are more immediate. Bournemouth are eighth in the Premier League, level on points with Brentford and Chelsea and behind them only on goal difference. Europe is suddenly within reach for the first time in the club’s history, and Kroupi is central to that push.

Yet change is coming. Manager Andoni Iraola will leave at the end of the season, and that shift on the touchline is expected to trigger fresh interest in several Bournemouth players. Kroupi sits near the top of that list.

With Premier League rivals circling and European giants watching, United cannot afford to drift. If they truly want Eli Junior Kroupi at Old Trafford, they will have to move with conviction – and pay like a club that knows this might be their next long-term forward.
