At Old Trafford, attention has swung firmly to the left flank. Manchester United are preparing to open talks with Barcelona over Alejandro Balde, with discussions expected soon with his agent Jorge Mendes about a potential move for the 22-year-old left-back.
United have been tracking Balde’s situation closely. Club sources told ESPN they are worried Luke Shaw cannot be asked to churn through three games a week across the Premier League and Champions League. That concern has already pushed them to enquire about Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall earlier in the summer. Balde, though, is emerging as the priority.

Villa step up striker search with Mateta bid
Further down the table, Aston Villa’s search for a centre-forward is starting to feel urgent. The club have made an offer for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, The Athletic reports, but the proposal sits well below Palace’s valuation.
Villa’s need is obvious. Ollie Watkins’ future remains uncertain, while Tammy Abraham and Brian Madjo are sidelined with injuries. The Midlands club also weighed up a move for Mateta in January and have returned to the idea, with the 29-year-old currently in dispute with Palace over the final year of his contract.
For Villa, the question is simple: raise the bid, or risk entering the season short in the one area no ambitious side can afford to be light.
Juventus cool on Kolo Muani, turn to Sørloth
In Italy, Juventus are already reassessing one of their attacking options. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the club are unimpressed with Randal Kolo Muani’s performances since his return and are now turning their focus to Atlético Madrid striker Alexander Sørloth.
The Norway international is being favoured over Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee, with Juve believing Sørloth’s profile suits their needs better. To keep the cost under control, Nicolas González could be included in the deal, a move that would appeal to the 28-year-old, who wants to stay with Atleti after the end of his loan spell.
Galatasaray keep chasing Leão as Milan hold firm
Rafael Leão’s name refuses to leave the gossip columns. AC Milan’s winger remains a live target for Galatasaray after Aston Villa stepped away from the race, Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Newcastle are scouring the winger market too, looking at Feyenoord’s Anis Hadj Moussa and Real Betis’ Abde Ezzalzouli, TEAMtalk reports, as they try to add pace and width.
Brighton & Hove Albion have asked for information on AC Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana, per Schira, and Milan themselves are targeting 23-year-old Young Boys attacking midfielder Alvyn Sanches, say Sky Sports Italia.
