Manchester United Targeting Prolific Young Striker Blake Henry
Manchester United are moving aggressively in the youth market this summer, and their latest target comes with the kind of numbers that make even seasoned scouts look twice.
Blake Henry, a 14-year-old striker from Derby County’s academy, is in talks to join United after a remarkable season in which he scored 45 goals across all levels. For a player who only turned 14 a few months before stepping into the U18 Premier League, that return has pushed him rapidly towards the front of the national talent queue.
An England Under-15 international, Henry has not gone unnoticed. Manchester City have also shown interest, but United are understood to be leading the race for his signature as they attempt to bolster a youth set-up that has been under intense internal scrutiny.
Henry's Season
Henry’s season offers a snapshot of why the chase is so keen. He broke into Derby’s U18 Premier League side as one of the youngest players in the competition, clocking up 24 minutes across a couple of appearances. The real story, though, lies beneath that surface. Across all age groups and competitions, he plundered 45 goals, the kind of volume that quickly shifts a teenager from “one to watch” to “must not miss.”
If United complete the deal, Derby will be entitled to compensation. The figure will not be plucked from thin air. It will be calculated based on Henry’s age, how long he has been in Derby’s academy, the academy category of the buying club, and the documented costs of his training and development.
The ideal scenario for all parties is clear: Derby and United agree a fee between themselves. If they cannot, the matter moves to a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal, which will study the evidence and set the final amount.
This is not an isolated move from Old Trafford. United have been casting a wide net across rival academies this summer, assessing a range of youngsters as they attempt to refresh and upgrade the next generation coming through Carrington.
If they get Henry over the line, they will be landing one of the most prolific young forwards in the country. The question now is not whether big clubs have noticed him. It is which badge he will be wearing when those goals start coming at senior level.
