Marc Cucurella Confident Real Madrid Will Thrive Under Jose Mourinho

Marc Cucurella, who recently moved from Chelsea to Real Madrid in a £47.5m transfer, is optimistic about the club’s upcoming season under the leadership of Jose Mourinho. The Spanish defender expressed excitement about working with the Portuguese coach, believing big achievements lie ahead.

Mourinho Brings Confidence and Clarity

During initial training sessions, Cucurella noticed Mourinho’s impact right away. Speaking to Real Madrid TV after his first day on the pitch with the team, he highlighted the boost in morale and natural approach Mourinho brought.

“A lot of confidence and naturalness. We have to do what we know out on the field, and above all, enjoy ourselves. I think what we all want is to win and to have a great year,” said the left-back.

Living a Childhood Dream in Madrid

Despite having roots in Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Cucurella couldn't pass up the chance to join Real Madrid, known as Europe’s most decorated club with 15 Champions League titles. After helping Spain win the World Cup, the defender saw this move as an opportunity too special to ignore, especially under Mourinho’s guidance.

“As a kid starting out playing football, then having the opportunity to play for a club like this, it’s very hard to turn down. When the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate for a second. I’ve seen all those magical nights, those comebacks at the Bernabeu, all the Champions League titles they’ve lifted. Being part of that is a huge responsibility but also a beautiful challenge,” Cucurella explained.

A Major Milestone and Big Responsibility

The 28-year-old joins a star-studded recruitment wave alongside players like Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries. He’s proud to wear the famous white shirt and understands the high expectations at Real Madrid. His journey from clubs like Getafe and Eibar to a Premier League stint with Brighton and Chelsea has prepared him well.

“It’s an honour – not many can say they’ve worn this jersey. We’ve seen great legends here, it’s the biggest club in Europe. Being here today is a privilege, an honour, and above all, a reward for all the effort I’ve put into my career,” Cucurella added.

Building Momentum Ahead of La Liga

Real Madrid are now deep into preparations for the new season. Before La Liga begins, they will face friendlies against Deportivo de A Coruna and Schalke. These matches will help Mourinho blend new signings and fine-tune his tactics. The competitive season starts on August 22 with an away game against Espanyol.
