Mason Greenwood's Future: Marseille Exit and Fenerbahce Interest
Mason Greenwood has turned his back on Saudi Arabia – but his time at Olympique de Marseille is still drawing to a close.
The 24-year-old forward, who rebuilt his career in the south of France after leaving Manchester United, is expected to leave OM this summer and has already taken a symbolic step towards the exit. According to La Provence, Greenwood has handed back the keys to his house in Aix, a clear sign that this chapter is ending.
Saudi clubs tried to change his mind. As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Diriyah all made significant proposals to lure him to the Gulf. The money on offer was substantial. Greenwood said no.
His future, though, is unlikely to be in Ligue 1.
L’Équipe report that Greenwood has reached an agreement on personal terms with Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants have moved decisively on the player side, sensing an opportunity to add a high-profile forward to a squad already built to challenge domestically and in Europe.
One problem: OM have not agreed to anything.
Marseille, who have watched Greenwood re-establish his market value over two seasons at the Vélodrome, are holding firm. They value him at €50m and will not be rushed into a cut‑price deal, regardless of the pressure building around the situation.
Fenerbahce are not alone in the chase. AS Roma are also in the picture and, crucially, Greenwood is understood to be keen on a move to the Italian capital. Roma offer a different kind of project, a different kind of stage, and the idea clearly appeals to him.
Yet Roma face the same obstacle as Fenerbahce: no agreement with Marseille, no transfer.
So Greenwood stands at a crossroads. Saudi riches turned down, a house emptied in Aix, personal terms settled with one club, admiration flowing from another – and OM waiting for someone to meet their price. The next move now depends less on desire and more on who is willing to pay to prise him out of the south of France.
