Mason Mount is expected to sit out Manchester United’s next pre-season outing against Leeds at Croke Park, a small but significant bump in an otherwise sharp summer for the midfielder.

The 27-year-old has been one of United’s standout performers in their opening three warm-up matches, thriving in the number eight role with new signing Andrey Santos anchoring just behind him. Carrick’s reshaped midfield has looked slick, with Mount’s energy and timing giving United a different gear between the lines.

Mount took a kick to the foot in the early stages of Saturday’s draw with Paris St-Germain and was withdrawn before half-time. The picture has shifted slightly since. Mount has not trained in the days following the game and, as things stand, is unlikely to feature against Leeds on Wednesday. For a pre-season built around refining combinations and sharpening the press, losing such a central figure, even briefly, disrupts the choreography.

United will hope the setback remains exactly that – minor. There is still no clarity on whether Mount will be ready for the final pre-season fixture against Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday, a match that edges much closer to dress-rehearsal territory.
