He revealed that Dembele took Mbappe's words very personally, viewing them as a betrayal and a slight against his teammates. Rothen said, "Dembélé took it very badly, that's certain, he is very angry with Kylian Mbappé. It is a form of betrayal for him. The words are strong but that is exactly how he takes it." Meanwhile, Mbappe reportedly did not anticipate such a strong reaction.

The unease extends beyond Dembele, as multiple players are reportedly growing tired of Mbappe’s public statements. The unity that once characterized the squad seems to be breaking down, leaving players confused and divided amid the ongoing focus on individual accolades.
Rothen added, "I am told that there are a lot of players in the French team who do not understand, once again, all his statements, who are more in team Dembele than team Mbappe, yet it is the same team, but apparently there are two teams now."
