Mercedes Poised to Secure Ninth F1 Constructors’ Title at Brazil GP
After Kimi Antonelli clinched his first Formula 1 world championship at the Mexico Grand Prix, Mercedes is set to claim its ninth constructors’ title at the upcoming Brazil GP. The team, known as the Silver Arrows, has dominated this season, winning 12 of the 19 races so far.
With a commanding lead over Ferrari—currently 126 points ahead—only the Italian outfit stands a chance of catching Mercedes mathematically, though it remains a steep challenge. Unlike the Mexico GP, where Mercedes needed a 1-2 finish combined with Ferrari scoring no more than four points, the situation in Sao Paulo is simpler. Mercedes just needs to outscore Ferrari by at least three points to secure the championship.
Ways Mercedes Could Seal the Title at the Brazil GP
- Both Mercedes cars finish in the points and place ahead of the Ferrari drivers
- Mercedes achieves a 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4 finish
- Mercedes finishes 2-3 or 2-4 while Ferrari does not win the race
- Both Mercedes cars end up in the top five with no Ferrari on the podium
- Kimi Antonelli or George Russell finishes in the top eight while both Ferraris retire from the race
Throughout the 19 races this year, excluding sprint events, Mercedes has outscored Ferrari by three points or more on 10 occasions, showing their consistent advantage.
Antonelli Steps Into the Spotlight for Mercedes
The 2026 season is notable for being the first since 1955 that Mercedes has won the world championships without Lewis Hamilton. Young talent Kimi Antonelli has taken the reins as the team's new star.
"The championships with Lewis were absolutely incredible and rewarding," said team principal Toto Wolff. "I felt that we all were part of Lewis' history, one of the greatest champions, and that we would look back many years from now and say, 'We've been world champions with Lewis Hamilton.' That's something I still think about. He stayed relevant and culturally significant beyond Formula 1.""Those were very special championships that I'll carry with me for life. This one is different. As I said before, for me, [Kimi] is still the kid who hasn't even changed much visually. It's refreshing. I tried reaching him a few weeks ago and asked, 'Where's Kimi?' For his birthday, he was at a water park. Great! As long as we can help preserve that spirit, he's intertwined with Mercedes, which is great to see."
