Merih Demiral's Outburst After Al-Ahli's Defeat

Merih Demiral left the pitch beaten. He did not leave it quietly.

Al-Ahli had just fallen 3-2 to Al Qadsiah on Tuesday night, a wild game that saw 28-year-old Demiral unable to hold the back line and Tijjani Reijnders steal the show with two goals and the man-of-the-match award. The defeat stung. What followed cut even deeper.

A mocking post that lit the fuse

As Al Qadsiah celebrated a win that lifted them level at the top of the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal, the club’s official X account decided to twist the knife.

They posted a photo of Demiral staring at a phone, paired with a pointed caption: “As always, you can find the pain of defeat on his account.”

It was not just a bit of banter. Not to Demiral.

The Turkish centre-back saw the post and snapped. According to reports, he stormed into the Al Qadsiah dressing room after the match, demanding to know who ran the club’s X account. He insisted on an apology and ordered that the post be taken down. Eventually, it was removed.

By then, the damage to relations between player and opponent was done. The anger, though, was familiar.

A pattern of fury in defeat

This is not the first time Demiral has reacted badly after a painful loss with Al-Ahli.

Back in April, when Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr proved too strong, the former Juventus defender again let his frustration spill into the public arena. After that defeat, he posted two photos of his AFC Champions League medal with a sharp message attached: “For the first time, they are seeing a Champions League medal in their stadium.”

The subtext was clear. If he was going to hurt, he would remind everyone exactly who he is and what he has won.

Now, after another bruising night and another flashpoint, the question hangs over Demiral and Al-Ahli: does this combustible edge drive him on, or threaten to boil over just when his club needs calm most?
