Michael Olise walked out of the Allianz Arena with more than just a match ball under his arm.

In the mixed zone, the 25-year-old Frenchman was handed a Neymar shirt, signed and personally dedicated. The gift had been arranged by the Brazilian himself, who asked journalist Isabela Pagliari to deliver it during her visit to Munich. One global star reaching out to another who is fast joining that bracket.

Olise has never hidden what Neymar means to him. He once listed the Brazilian alongside Lionel Messi and Zinedine Zidane as his footballing idols. Neymar’s peak came in the colours of Barcelona; now, at 34, he is winding down at his hometown club Santos. From Brazil to Bavaria, the line of admiration has come full circle.

A season catching fire

Right now, Olise is playing as if determined to join that pantheon.

Against Union, in just his seventh competitive appearance of the season, he was named best player on the pitch for the fourth time. The numbers back up the eye test: 11 goal involvements so far, averaging one every 51 minutes. These are not just good statistics; they are elite.

Harry Kane, who knows a thing or two about world-class forwards, did not hold back.

"I really enjoy playing with Michael, and I also like him a lot as a person," Kane said. "Not everyone gets to see his true personality, but he is a great character. He is completely different from how he appears to outsiders."

Those outsiders mostly see the quiet, almost withdrawn figure who avoids the spotlight whenever possible. Olise is widely regarded as media-shy, and he underlined that reputation again after his latest masterclass. Sky wanted the man of the moment. Olise declined.

The current favourites for that honour read like a roll call of the modern era: Kane himself, Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe and Rodri. Now, Eberl insists, Olise belongs in that same sentence.

The shirt from Neymar might end up framed on a wall. The match ball will probably join a growing collection. But if Olise keeps producing nights like this, the next piece of memorabilia could be a golden one.
