Millwall Ready for Dockers Derby Against West Ham
Caleb Taylor insists Millwall will not take a backward step when West Ham United roll into The Den for Saturday’s lunchtime Dockers Derby.
The 23-year-old centre-back, speaking on the BBC’s EFL 72+ podcast, said the squad has been counting down to this fixture ever since the schedule dropped. This is no ordinary league game. It’s the first Dockers Derby since February 2012, and The Den has been waiting.
“We’ve been buzzing for it since the fixtures came out,” is the clear message from inside the camp. Taylor knows exactly what’s coming from the stands – and what has to come from the pitch.
Lions ready to bite back
West Ham arrive as the early pace-setters in the EFL Championship, top of the table after four straight wins. Taylor doesn’t flinch.
“I can’t wait,” he told the podcast. “You know what The Den’s like, it’s such a good atmosphere. Saturday we’ll try and be solid, they have some good players, come down from the Premier League, they have huge financial backing. We’ll make it a good game and really give it to them. It’s going to be proper intimidating.”
The defender promised Millwall will “unleash everything” they have. The Den will do its part. The players, he insists, will match it.

Taylor has been the constant in a chaotic early-season spell. He is the only Millwall player to have played every minute of their seven league games, even as Alex Neil has been forced to use 24 different players amid an injury crisis.
The numbers at the back sting. Millwall opened the campaign with two straight clean sheets, then leaked 13 goals in their next five league outings. For a club that prides itself on defensive steel, that run cuts deep.
Taylor admitted the recent concessions are not who this backline believes it is. Alongside long-time defensive pillar Jake Cooper, his mission is simple: restore order.
The task could hardly be tougher. West Ham’s attack has been ruthless, their 16-goal burst across four games a warning siren for any defence. Taylor and Cooper will aim to smother that threat early, win duels, and drag the game onto Millwall’s terms before the visitors can find their rhythm.
