After Real Madrid's 2-1 loss against Atletico Madrid, Jose Mourinho expressed his frustration by presenting printed images highlighting controversial moments from the match. The defeat deepens Real Madrid's gap in the LaLiga title race, leaving them six points behind leaders Barcelona.
Mourinho singled out what he believed were two clear red card incidents against Atletico players in the first half, arguing that these calls heavily influenced the game's outcome.
"We can skip the press conference because the story of the match is right here," Mourinho said, holding up papers with screenshots of the disputed plays. "Those were two clear red cards. Considering we played most of the game 11 against 10, imagine how different it would have been with 11 against nine for 50 minutes."
Despite the frustration, Mourinho praised his squad's effort and character, especially their performance in the first half.
"I’ll just have to limit myself to hugging my players, who gave it their all and showed great class and character," he added. "I liked my team as a unit. Even in the first half, I really liked them. The second half was tough due to Atletico’s possession, but I admired their pride and determination. It’s good not to be disappointed in my players."
Mourinho also expressed hope that the referees' decisions were honest mistakes rather than intentional errors.
"I want to believe they are simply mistakes, just like coaches and players make mistakes," he said.

Atletico Madrid's coach Diego Simeone, celebrating the win, chose not to engage in the controversy. Instead, he emphasized the importance of respect among managers, officials, and peers.
"We are in a privileged position with lots of public scrutiny. Whether it’s Mourinho, [Hansi] Flick, [Manuel] Pellegrini, me, or anyone else, we must be careful about what we say," Simeone stated. "We need to respect referees, colleagues, and understand that crossing the line of respect is unacceptable."
