Nathan Broadhead Out of Nations League and Wrexham Clash Due to Injury
Nathan Broadhead has been forced out of Wales’ Nations League campaign and Wrexham’s weekend clash with Southampton after suffering a thigh injury in training.
The 28-year-old forward had been named in Craig Bellamy’s 28-man squad for a demanding Nations League A schedule against Portugal, Norway and a double header with Denmark. Instead, he will now sit out both club and country duty at a time when fixtures are starting to pile up.
“Broady has strained his thigh in training, which is a shame because he was training well,” said Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson. “That’s going to keep him out for the weekend but there’s nothing new from that.”
Pressed on whether the setback would also rule Broadhead out of the upcoming Wales camp, Parkinson’s reply was blunt: “Yes.”
The injury caps a stop-start opening to the season for the 20-cap international. Broadhead began Wrexham’s Championship campaign as a first-choice pick, starting their first three league games. Since then, he has not featured in matches against Millwall, Swansea City, Burnley and West Ham United, and now faces another spell on the sidelines just as Wales prepare for a high-profile run of fixtures.
Upcoming Fixtures
- 24 September: Wales vs. Portugal
- Denmark: Away match in Copenhagen
- 1 October: Wales vs. Norway
- 4 October: Second meeting against Denmark
Broadhead will watch it all from afar, his focus now shifting to recovery and the race to be ready for the next block of games in a season that is already asking serious questions of squad depth.
