Nottingham Forest Sign Delap from Chelsea for £50m
Nottingham Forest have rolled the dice in a major way, completing the signing of Delap from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £45m, with a further £5m tied up in add-ons.
The 23-year-old striker has signed a long-term contract that runs until 2031, ending his Chelsea stay after just a single season. For the Blues, it is ruthless business: they bank an instant £20m profit after paying around £30m to Ipswich Town for him in June 2025.
For Forest, it is a statement. For Delap, it is a reset.

Delap arrives at the City Ground talking like a player ready to take ownership of his career.
"I really can't wait to get started, this is a massive club with a big history," he told club media after the move was confirmed. He has already bought into Oliver Glasner’s methods, convinced the head coach can sharpen his game and push him into a higher bracket.
"I spoke to the manager and I like his way, I think he can be the one to really help me develop and make that next step and hopefully I can bring goals here.

On paper, one league goal last season with Chelsea hardly screams £50m striker. Forest have looked beyond that headline number.
Delap’s reputation was forged at Ipswich Town in the 2024-25 campaign, when he scored 12 league goals in a struggling side that ultimately went down. In a team fighting relegation, he still found ways to trouble defences and drag his side up the pitch.
His numbers with the ball underline why top-flight clubs stayed interested. Delap produced 26 shot-ending carries that season – the highest figure among all Premier League strikers. Pace. Power. Relentless, aggressive running at defenders. Those are the traits Forest are paying for.
He also carries a famous surname. The son of former defender Rory Delap, he has grown up around the demands of the professional game, and Forest are betting that experience, combined with his physical profile, will translate into goals at the City Ground.
