Omar Marmoush on Optimism at Tottenham Hotspur Amidst Tough Start
Omar Marmoush has not picked an easy moment to talk about optimism at Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs sit seventeenth in the Premier League with a single point from three games, a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle and a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest framing a stuttering start. Everton arrive in north London on Saturday in far better shape, eighth in the table on five points and carrying early-season momentum.
Yet Marmoush, only weeks into his Spurs career, sounds convinced this is the start of something, not the beginning of a crisis.
“It has only been a few weeks since I arrived here, but the overall impression is absolutely wonderful,” the Egyptian forward told British newspaper Straits Times on the eve of the Everton clash.
Those are not the words of a player spooked by the league table. They come from someone who believes the foundations are being laid, even if the results have not yet followed.
De Zerbi’s passion and a new phase at Spurs
Marmoush has been dropped straight into Roberto De Zerbi’s project and he is already buying into the Italian’s intensity.
“He has great passion, and we are trying to grasp what he asks of us and apply it on the pitch in the best possible way, and things are going excellently so far,” he said.
The league position tells one story. Inside the camp, Marmoush insists, the feeling is different. De Zerbi’s demands are clear, the ideas are taking root, and the new signings are still learning each other’s movements.
The 25-year-old has featured twice in a Spurs shirt so far: coming on in the 2-0 loss to Newcastle, then involved again in the 0-0 draw away at Nottingham Forest. No goals yet, no headline moment, but enough of a taste to sharpen his appetite.
“The results will be wonderful”
For Marmoush, the short-term turbulence is simply part of a longer journey.
“We hope to achieve victories, and as a new player who joined the team alongside other players, the harmony will begin to grow once we spend more time together, and I believe the results will be wonderful,” he said, closing with a note of calm conviction rather than defiance.
Spurs fans have heard talk of “new phases” before. This time, the table offers a stark reminder of how far they have to climb. Everton will test that optimism immediately.
If Marmoush and De Zerbi are right, though, this awkward, nervy September could be remembered as the moment a new Tottenham finally started to take shape.
