Omar Marmoush Set for Tottenham Switch from Manchester City
Omar Marmoush is on the brink of a dramatic switch from Manchester City to Tottenham Hotspur, with the deal now moving into its final stretch.
The Egypt international said his goodbyes at City today and has been granted permission to undergo a medical with Spurs, a key step before the move becomes official.
Spurs close in on Marmoush
David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Marmoush is already preparing for his medical tests in London, the last major hurdle before he pulls on a Tottenham shirt.
The structure of the deal is clear. Marmoush will join on loan with an obligation to buy for £50 million, plus £10 million in add-ons. Of that extra £10 million, £5 million are guaranteed. He is expected to sign a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth season.
Eintracht Frankfurt, the club that sold him to City, will not receive a percentage of any future resale, a notable detail in a market where sell-on clauses have become standard.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has backed up those details, stating that Marmoush is scheduled to sign for Spurs on Thursday, barring any late twist in the medical or paperwork.
From City frustration to De Zerbi’s rebuild
The move has been brewing for weeks. Marmoush’s name has hovered around the transfer columns all summer, driven by his push for more consistent minutes after a stop-start spell at City.
He arrived at the Etihad from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, riding the momentum of a prolific run in Germany that earned him his Premier League chance. But he never fully broke through the logjam in City’s attack.
Competition was ruthless. Even with eight goals across all competitions last season, Marmoush started only 16 matches. Those numbers underlined his frustration and sharpened his focus on finding a club prepared to build around him rather than rotate him.
That is where Tottenham stepped in. Spurs moved decisively, working on Marmoush at the same time as they negotiated with City for Brazilian winger Savinho, a deal they have already completed for £75 million plus £10 million in add-ons.
English reports had already revealed that Tottenham and City reached agreement on a loan with a £50 million buy clause, which becomes obligatory once specific conditions are met. The latest developments suggest those conditions are effectively a formality.
A statement signing in a £300m rebuild
This is not an isolated move. It drops into the middle of a huge summer overhaul at Tottenham.
After finishing 17th in the Premier League last season, Spurs have launched an aggressive rebuild, spending more than £300 million as they attempt to drag themselves back into contention and away from the chaos of a relegation fight.
Roberto De Zerbi has been tasked with reshaping the squad and, crucially, the attack. The early weeks of the campaign have exposed familiar problems in the final third: a lack of cutting edge, an over-reliance on moments rather than structure.
Marmoush is being brought in to change that picture. A forward who can stretch defences, link play and attack space, he offers De Zerbi a different profile to what Spurs already have.
Talks between City and Tottenham accelerated sharply in recent days, with all sides pushing to get the deal over the line. Now, everything rests on the medical and the final signatures.
