PSG Part Ways with Renato Sanches: A Pragmatic Decision
Paris Saint-Germain have finally cut the cord with Renato Sanches.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the club’s hierarchy have decided that freeing Sanches from his deal is the simplest way to end a cycle of injuries and loans that turned a former Golden Boy into a financial weight. The idea is clear: stop the revolving door of temporary moves, clear the wage bill, and give the player a chance to relaunch his career properly.
Sanches returned to Paris this summer after a loan spell at Panathinaikos. In Greece, he finally put together something resembling continuity: 24 matches, 12 starts, one goal, one assist. More importantly, he largely rediscovered his fitness, even if there were still spells on the sidelines.
Back at PSG, he trained normally throughout pre-season. No fresh physical problems, no dramatic setbacks. The body held up. The verdict did not.
Neither the coaching staff nor the board see him as part of the club’s future. In a squad being streamlined around a defined core, Sanches has slipped firmly into the “non-essential” column. Hence the drastic solution: let him leave for nothing and draw a line under an experiment that never really took off.
A European dream that refuses to die
For Sanches, this is not the end of the road, only the end of this chapter. The 2016 Golden Boy still believes his story belongs in Europe’s major leagues.
He has already turned down lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, Brazil and MLS. The money was tempting. The fit was not. He wants a proper sporting project, regular football, and the chance to recover the shine he showed at Benfica, Bayern Munich and Lille.
The market has responded.
Offers have arrived in waves. Torino in Serie A, Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, and Championship pair Ipswich Town and Hull City are all interested. Two French clubs are also considering a move, sensing an opportunity to revive a career that has flickered in too many places without truly catching fire.
From Benfica to Bayern Munich, via Swansea, Lille, Roma and then Paris in 2022, Sanches’ journey has been anything but straightforward. Now, with PSG ready to open the exit door and tear up the financial script, the next choice is his.
