Real Madrid Closes Transfer Window: Mourinho's Squad Finalized
Real Madrid’s summer of upheaval is over. Not with a final flourish, not with a late twist, but with a firm decision from the club: no more signings.
With the deadline looming on Tuesday, 1 September at midnight, journalist Jose Felix Diaz, speaking via Ruben Martin’s YouTube channel, reports that Real Madrid have ruled out any further arrivals. After weeks of rumours about another midfielder and a left-footed centre-back, the club has drawn a line under its incoming business.
Mourinho’s first Madrid rebuild
Jose Mourinho was the first major arrival of this new era at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the club moved quickly to give him a revamped dressing room.
Six significant signings have followed.
The window started with World Cup winner Marc Cucurella. Then came Ibrahima Konate to strengthen the back line, Bernardo Silva to add guile and goals, Denzel Dumfries to power up the flanks, and Yan Diomande – the headline act.
Diomande, just 19, has smashed the club’s transfer record. Real Madrid committed up to €140 million including add-ons for the Ivorian winger, making him the most expensive signing in their history. All eyes will be on him the moment he pulls on the shirt.
On deadline eve, the club also completed a quieter piece of business: 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander. He will start with Castilla, a long-term project rather than an immediate solution for Mourinho’s first team.
Targets that slipped away
The squad overhaul could have been even more dramatic.
Real Madrid pushed hard for a top-level midfielder, with Rodri at the top of their list. Instead, the Spaniard chose a move to arch-rivals FC Barcelona, a stinging blow in the market and another chapter in the eternal rivalry.
Mourinho also wanted a left-footed centre-back. Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan was his preferred choice, a profile the coach felt would balance his defence. Negotiations never reached the decisive stage, and the deal faded away.
So the window will close without that extra midfielder, without that left-footed central defender. The message now is clear: Mourinho must go into battle with what he has.
Door shut on arrivals, half-open on exits
If the entrance door is locked, the exit door remains on the latch.
According to Diaz, Real Madrid are not ruling out departures before the deadline. The club has been actively trying to move on Eduardo Camavinga, who has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League. The problem for Madrid? The player does not want to leave. Camavinga has resisted attempts to push him out, holding his ground as the clock ticks down.
Raul Asencio finds himself in a similar limbo. Mourinho does not see a major role for the academy product in his project and has made him available for a move. Asencio, though, is reluctant to walk away from the club that formed him.
So the final hours of the window at Valdebebas will be about outgoings, not incomings. Phone calls, offers, pressure. Players weighing their futures against their loyalties.
One thing, though, is no longer up for debate: Real Madrid’s transfer business, at least on the buying side, is done. The squad Mourinho has now is the squad he must live with when the season’s real tests arrive.
