Richmond Park Section G Closure After Spectator Incident

Part of the main stand at Richmond Park will be closed for two upcoming St Patrick’s Athletic home games after a Waterford player was allegedly struck by a spectator during last Friday’s league fixture.

The incident occurred in St Pat’s 2-0 defeat to Waterford, with away player Jorgen Voilas reportedly hit from the stands. The Football Association of Ireland’s Independent Disciplinary Committee has responded with a financial penalty and sanctions targeting Section G of the main stand.

Section G Hit With Two-Game Closure

The committee has imposed a fine on the club and ordered a one-match closure of Section G – a punishment St Pat’s are entitled to appeal under FAI Disciplinary Regulations. On top of that, a previously suspended one-match closure of the same section has now been activated, turning it into a two-game shutdown.

In a statement, the League of Ireland confirmed the measures, outlining that the sanctions relate directly to the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division game between St Patrick’s Athletic and Waterford at Richmond Park on Friday, 28 August 2026, “during which a player was struck by a spectator”.

Timing Spares Bohemians Clash

The timing of the ruling offers a small reprieve. With Bohemians due to visit Inchicore on Saturday and operational changes deemed too tight to implement before then, Section G will remain open for that fixture.

The closures instead are set to come into force for St Pat’s next two home league games: against Shamrock Rovers on 11 September and Shelbourne on 16 October. Those matches, both likely to draw strong crowds, will now go ahead with a reduced capacity in the main stand.

The club can contest the decision, but unless an appeal overturns or alters the ruling, Section G will stay shut for two of the biggest nights of their run-in.
